What is Walk for the Homeless?
Hillcrest Walk for the Homeless is an event that raises awareness and funds to support Hillcrest in its mission to transition homeless families to self-sufficiency.
Participating in Walk for the Homeless is an excellent way to show your support for Hillcrest and the families we serve. However, what makes the biggest difference for the Hillcrest families and children are the dollars you collect through pledges. Without the love and support given by the thousands of walkers in past years, Hillcrest could not succeed.
Thousands of community members across the Kansas City Area have participated in Walk for the Homeless for almost 20 years, and we would like to invite you to join them. This year's event promises to be even more exciting and successful for all, so register today!
How Can I Participate in Walk for the Homeless?
To participate in Walk for the Homeless simply fill out the online registration form, or call your local Hillcrest office to request a registration form. Many local businesses will also display event brochures, which include a form in them as well.
Once you are registered for the event, we will send you an event Pledge Packet. It will contain detailed information on the Walk, including a map of the Walk route, fundraising tips, incentive levels, and a Pledge Envelope.
Raise and Collect Pledges!
Set a goal for how many pledges you would like to raise, then begin gathering sponsors! Fill out your sponsor information on the Pledge envelope, including the amount they wish to pledge, or attach a print out of your donors & online pledges from your
personal Walker Page.
Collect your pledges as you gather sponsors. Pledge sponsors can make their donation when they sign up, or may make a donation online at the Hillcrest Website. Some sponsors like to make a general pledge to you, and others will pledge a specific dollar amount per mile that you walk. Be sure to ask them which they prefer. Hillcrest accepts donations of cash or check, or by credit card online (Visa, MasterCard,
Discover & American Express are accepted). If they write a check, they will need to write it out to the Hillcrest affiliate you are Walking for, i.e., Hillcrest of Platte, Clay, Eastern Jackson, or Kansas. Also, remember to remind them that not only is their pledge benefiting homeless families in need, but it is tax deductible as well.
Plan to have all your pledges turned in the day of the event. If you have sponsors who wish to have you complete the Walk before giving their pledge, you have until June 30th, 2009 to turn them in to be eligible for prizes.
